Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2, 2026

CirqleUp ("CirqleUp", "we", "us") helps people find a compatible circle of people for dating, friendship, or professional networking. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It covers the CirqleUp mobile app and this website (cirqleup.com).

[Placeholder — fill in before this policy is relied upon in production: legal entity name, registered business address, and Data Protection Officer / grievance officer contact, once CirqleUp is incorporated.]

1. Who can use CirqleUp

CirqleUp is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and we ask for date of birth or age at signup to enforce this.

2. What we collect

2.1 Information you give us

  • Account: email and password, or your Google account (name, email, profile photo) if you sign in with Google.
  • Profile: name, age, gender, city, photos, interests, values, skills, goals, and lifestyle answers (e.g. drinking/smoking habits) you enter during onboarding — the exact fields depend on the mode (Dating, Friendship, Networking) you're using.
  • Messages: chat messages you send within your circles and one-on-one conversations.
  • Waitlist signup: if you join the waitlist on this website, we collect your name, email, age, and gender.
  • Support requests: anything you send us when you contact support.

2.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Location: with your permission, approximate or precise device location, used to find nearby matches. You can decline and we fall back to your profile city.
  • Usage data: app screens viewed, features used, and similar interaction events, collected via our analytics provider (PostHog) to understand and improve the product.
  • Device & diagnostics: device type, OS version, app version, crash logs (via Firebase Crashlytics), and a push-notification token so we can deliver notifications.

2.3 Information we derive

We compute compatibility scores between you and other users from your profile answers, using a rule-based scoring engine (and, where enabled, embedding-based similarity). These scores determine who is placed in your circle — they are not used to make any decision about you outside the app.

3. How we use your data

  • Create and maintain your account and profile
  • Compute compatibility and form your circles
  • Power in-app chat and push notifications
  • Keep the platform safe — moderation, abuse prevention, and enforcing our Terms
  • Understand product usage and fix bugs (analytics, crash reporting)
  • Respond to support requests
  • Meet legal obligations

4. Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal data. We share it with the service providers that run CirqleUp, each processing data on our behalf under their own security commitments:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and photo storage
  • Google — Sign-In with Google, and Firebase for push notifications (FCM) and crash reporting (Crashlytics)
  • Stream — in-app chat infrastructure
  • PostHog — product analytics
  • Cloudflare — hosting for this website

Other CirqleUp users see the parts of your profile relevant to your mode (photos, name, age, city, and shared interests/values) once you're matched into a circle together. We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users.

5. Where your data lives

Your data is stored with our infrastructure providers in their hosted regions. We choose regions with a preference for keeping data close to where our users are, and we review this as we expand to new markets.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account and profile data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your profile, matches, and messages, except where we're required to retain something for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention reasons.

7. Your rights and choices

  • Access & correction: edit your profile any time in the app.
  • Deletion: delete your account from Settings, or ask us to delete it for you.
  • Location: control or revoke location permission in your device settings.
  • Notifications: control push notification permission in your device settings.
  • Portability & objection: contact us to request a copy of your data or object to a particular use.

If you're in India, these rights are provided consistent with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. If you're in the EU/UK, they're provided consistent with the GDPR. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Security

Access to your data is restricted by row-level security policies at the database layer, so only you (and, where relevant, members of your circle) can see your data through the app. Data is encrypted in transit. No system is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

9. Cookies & local storage

This website (cirqleup.com) does not use tracking or advertising cookies. We store a single local preference — your light/dark theme choice — in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device. The CirqleUp app does not use cookies; it uses the analytics and diagnostics tools listed in section 4.

10. Changes to this policy

We'll update the date at the top of this page when we make changes, and let you know in the app if a change is material.
